He felt there was reason and logic and beauty to the universe, regardless of the name, though not personal, and to discover but one bit of that beauty, a task that will take milleniums, would leave him fulfilled. you failed to emphasize that. I think the physicist Steven Weinburg, in the Beyond Belief series, remarked that any modern graduate student has a better understanding of general relativity than Einstein did. Physicists accept and don't mind that. OTOH, the people who expect (their souls) to live forever are afraid of anything which challenges the wisdom of their undying heroes.
