Description: ..the skin on the crew cabin was very thin, and that was all done because of weight savings.. (08.57) Harold Loden Apollo 11 Mission Controller ..If you really took your finger and pulled hard at it, you could pull right out the outer skin of the space craft. It was about thickness of two layers of aluminium foil.. (09.16) Gene Kranz Apollo 11 Flight Controller |

LindaStevensBZ ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 11:06:22 Nice video...thanks again Joker. Keep in mind when they talk about the thin skin being like aluminum foil...they are talking about the OUTER SKIN. The outer skin was not structural, it was primarily for thermal protection and micrometeoroid protection. The small inner pressurised hull (crew compartment) was made of an extremely tough and strong aluminum plate. Great video! __________________________________________________
JokerisWebCams ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 11:14:35 Ahh! You got the word, Linda. "Aluminum plate" to protect them against all that radiation and temperature changes. Answer to your question yesterday..no, i would not have build any kind of LM back in 60's/70's. Today i would build LM at space. Part by part. Like ISS. __________________________________________________
LindaStevensBZ ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 11:36:44 So Joker...you think it would be better to build spacecraft like the LEM in orbit? Wow...that's a new one. OK...you don't like the old LEM because it looks funny...right? But it would be OK to build them in space...right? BTW...the only reason the ISS is being built in space is because it is so big. Question: Is it easier to build things in space or in a factory on earth? FYI...the old Apollo, Mercury, Gemini, Soyuz, Mir all used aluminum plate. Is aluminum a fake material? __________________________________________________
JokerisWebCams ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 11:48:40 I am talking about going to the moon. It would be easier to build a large and protective enough LEM there next to ISS. Of course it would be build here on ground, but all modules put together at space. Maybe i should consult NASA a bit about this matter. __________________________________________________
LindaStevensBZ ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 11:58:13 Just curious...what was wrong with the old Apollo LEM? It did a pretty good job...right? But it looks really funny. Why would all those engineers and scientists and technicians build the LM to look so funny? Hmmm? Have you looked at all the old LM design stuff on the net and in the NASA archives? Sure is interesting. Just curious Joker...do you have some really good designs that would work better than the old LM? __________________________________________________
JokerisWebCams ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 12:01:58 Oh yes, Linda. I would build an LM/CM with what astronauts would survive alive going to the moon and back. That was big problem before and is still today. We will see, how they go to the moon for the first time. (i have looked design stuff yes) __________________________________________________
straydog02 ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 17:16:42 Linda ... Speaking of lying Apollo astronots , did you know that Buzz has very recently changed his UFO sighting story ? ... He was on the Larry King Live TV show a few nights ago and besides boring the piss out of everybody with his story of how the CSM and LM seperated from the main rocket , he is now claiming that the UFO they saw was only a panel from the Saturn V rocket !! Maybe he forgot that he made this documentary for nasa telling a different lie ? __________________________________________________
LindaStevensBZ ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 20:14:55 Whatever floats your boat, Doggie. __________________________________________________
straydog02 ::: Favorites 2007-07-20 20:31:24 The story about the radiation light flashes is a new whopper too ... Funny how none of the A11 crew ever mentioned them until this nasa disinformation documentary was made . __________________________________________________
Karpindur ::: Favorites 2007-08-11 09:50:29 Dont be a knucklehead. There are bootprints on the moon, and tons of evidence to prove it. __________________________________________________
Karpindur ::: Favorites 2007-08-11 09:51:46 So, are you people seriously implying that Apollo was a hoax? That man cant fly? Get real. __________________________________________________
RednPhoenix ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 12:26:54 Great video! __________________________________________________ |
